Alvin Community College’s board of regents approved an online bachelor’s degree in nursing at its April 24 meeting, according to an April 25 news release from the college.

Regents decided to pursue the new online program after the increased demand for nurses with bachelor’s degrees from local healthcare providers, according to the news release.

According to a survey from students in ACC’s associate’s degree in nursing, 80% of students intend to enroll in the bachelor’s program once they complete their associate degree, the news release notes.


“Many students when they’re searching for a nursing program, they’re seeking one with a bachelor’s degree,” ACC Nursing Director Elizabeth Saucedo said in the news release.

The college will add two new faculty members and administrative support staff for the new program, the news release notes.

The new program will also have part- and full-time options, according to the news release.


Also of note

This will be the second bachelor’s degree offered by ACC, with the first being business administration and management, according to the release.
