The Woodlands Development Company has announced plans to begin construction this month on Two Hughes Landing, the second office building in the 66-acre Hughes Landing development located along Lake Woodlands.

The 197,000-square-foot, 8-story office building will be similar in design to One Hughes Landing, and will begin construction this month with completion scheduled for spring 2014, according to a press release. The office building is the second of as many as 11 office building which could be constructed at Hughes Landing, a development which will also feature restaurants, entertainment venues, a specialty grocer, a hotel, a fitness center and up to 800 muli-family residences.

"There is a tremendous amount of interest in premier office space in The Woodlands, and leasing activity for One Hughes Landing has been very strong," said Paul Layne, executive vice president of master-planned communities for The Howard Hughes Corporation. "Hughes Landing presents an outstanding opportunity for corporate relocations and expansions, representing a 'lifestyle intersection' where business and urban living blend seamlessly."

One Hughes Landing—nearly 50 percent leased—was topped out in May and is scheduled for occupancy in September upon the building's completion. Layne Christensen will occupy the top two floors—about 51,200 square feet—of the 197,000-square-foot building, while PetroQuest Energy LLC will occupy 13,100 square feet, Summit Midstream will occupy 12,500 square feet, Wells Fargo Bank will occupy 8,300 square feet and Post Oak Bank has a 4,355-square-foot space.

A seven-year tax abatement for Layne Christensen was approved by Montgomery County Commissioners Court on Monday. The agreement provides a 100 percent abatement on the first four years of property taxes to the county, a 75 percent abatement on year five, a 50 percent abatement on year six and a 25 percent abatement on the final year.
