The Montgomery County Precinct 4 Commissioner's Office announced the reopening of Ed Rinehart Park in New Caney as of March 15 following a turf replacement project.

The details

Funded through a public and private partnership between the Precinct 4 Commissioner's Office and ATD Sports Properties, a total of 10 fields at Ed Rinehart Park have been reconstructed to include new artificial turf, including:
  • Four baseball fields
  • Four softball fields
  • Two T-ball fields
ATD Sports Properties was founded by Adam Dunn, a former professional baseball player and New Caney ISD alum. The partnership was meant to provide better sports field resources to students in East Montgomery County without requiring additional taxpayer funding, Precinct 4 Commissioner Matt Gray said during a State of the Precinct address on March 12.

In their words
  • “These improvements to Ed Rinehart Park are an investment in our community, our families and the future of youth sports in East Montgomery County,” Gray said in a news release. “Not only will these upgrades save money and resources, but they will also ensure the fields are available year-round, rain or shine.”
  • "My family spent hours playing baseball in this community and wanted to make sure that others will have the same, special memories that I did," Dunn said. "This is a project that I want everyone in the community to be proud of, and I am happy to bring this collaboration with Commissioner Gray to my hometown.”
  • “We appreciate Commissioner Gray for being instrumental in bringing this project to life," John Warren, East Montgomery County Sports Association Presideny said. "East Montgomery County and our kids deserve quality fields to perform on and we are glad to be a part of making this happen.”
