The same week as elementary students began returning for in-person instruction, Humble ISD announced all classes and activities will be closed Aug. 26-27 in preparation for Hurricane Laura. There will also be no online classes for families that chose remote learning, according to a posting on the district's website.
According to a 12:17 p.m. tweet from HISD Superintendent Elizabeth Fagen, the hurricane could bring winds to the area on the two days, which is the main concern rather than rainfall.
The storm is expected to make landfall early Aug. 27 along the upper Texas coast and southwest Louisiana and could bring rain and wind to the Houston region, according to a 11:15 a.m. news release from the National Weather Service.Humble ISD Family - we will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday due to Hurricane Laura. The update this morning shows the potential for a significant wind event for @HumbleISD Wednesday night into Thursday. At this point, rainfall is not the concern. Please prepare.
