Members of the Union Pacific Police Department and local law enforcement agencies will begin patrolling the Union Pacific Railroad crossings in Kingwood at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 15, as part of a public safety program.

According to an advisory from UPRR, Union Pacific Police will work with the Montgomery County Constable's office and Texas Department of Public Safety Thursday to promote railroad crossing and pedestrian safety in the Kingwood area. The initiative is part of Union Pacific's Crossing Accident Reduction Education and Safety program.

Beginning at 7 a.m., law enforcement officers will travel by train between Kingwood Drive and FM 1485 to observe drivers and pedestrians nearby the UPRR tracks. Officers will observe motorist behavior at railroad crossings and dispatch officers positioned nearby if railroad signals and warnings are ignored, according to a statement. Officers will also be looking for pedestrians crossing or walking on the UPRR tracks.
