Amtrak is on its way to receive a $63.9 million federal grant for the high speed rail project connecting Houston to Dallas, according to the Federal Railroad Administration.
What we know
The FRA is waiting for Amtrak officials to submit documents regarding the project to review before awarding the grant, according to William Wong, a FRA public affairs representative.
After Amtrak officials submit the pre-award documents and the grant is awarded, the project enters Step 3, Wong said. Step 3 is the project development phase, reviewing the final design, environmental reviews and other required documentation needed before construction begins.
However, construction doesn't begin directly after completion of Step 3, Wong said. Another round of funding would be needed for construction.
