Humble ISD students are poised to receive an extra week of time off this summer following approval of the district's 2025-26 academic calendar at the Jan. 14 board meeting.

The overview

HISD officials said the 187-day calendar closely resembles the district’s 2024-25 calendar outside of changes to the start of the school year and spring break.

According to the new calendar, classes will begin Aug. 13—a week later than the start of the 2024-25 school year—and end May 29. Similarly, spring break will be held a week later than the 2024-25 school year, running from March 16-20.

Officials also noted the district will continue to implement weeklong breaks in October and February in addition to Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks.

Rick Gardner, HISD associate superintendent of human resources, said the additional weeklong breaks, which were first implemented in the 2019-20 school year, have helped the district retain and attract prospective employees.

“It’s a selling point,” Gardner said. “Not every district has the amount of time off that we have.”
