Fulshear City Council Member Zach Jones has resigned from office, according to a June 2 press release from the city.

Jones was elected to serve as council member for District 1 in the May 1 election. According to the election results, Jones garnered 74.93% of the vote, or 281 votes, beating opponent Tajana Surlan, who received 25.07% of the vote, or 94 votes.

Jones was sworn into office during the council’s May 11 meeting. Mayor Aaron Groff received a written resignation from Jones on May 16, which became effective May 24, according to the release.

Jones resigned from office for personal reasons, said Jess Washburn, communications coordinator for the city.

Fulshear City Council members will discuss filling the vacancy at their June 15 meeting.
