Trustees unanimously voted at the April 24 board meeting to approve renaming Stan C. Stanley Elementary School to Stan C. and Patsy Stanley Elementary School.

Patsy Stanley, a 34-year educator, is involved in several area organizations including the Katy Area Retired Educators. She also volunteers often at Stanley elementary.

Her husband, Stan Stanley, the elementary school’s first namesake, died last year. After the vote, trustees spoke about Patsy Stanley, including board President Rebecca Fox.

“When Stan passed we all said, ‘Why isn’t Patsy’s name on the school?’” Fox said. “I’m glad we got to correct that here tonight.”

Supporters from Stanley elementary were also in attendance at the meeting and voiced their support for the change.

“You are always available for us,” Fox said. “You have the energy of the Energizer bunny, and you’re always saying yes to events.”

Stanley elementary opened in August 2009.
