Audrey Schlorholtz said her goal at Color Match Studio in Katy is identifying which colors coordinate with a person’s natural harmony—her favorite word.

“We were all created in harmony—our hair, our skin, our eyes; everything about us goes together,” Schlorholtz said. “So [color matching] should feel natural, should feel authentic, it should feel effortless; it should not feel hard.”

Certified to practice True Colour International’s 12-tone color analysis method, Schlorholtz has helped her clients find their most complimentary color scheme for jewelry, clothing and hair colors since she opened the business in May 2022.

How it works

The TCI method examines both neutral spaces and the three dimensions of color, which include hue, chroma and value, Schlorholtz said.

“Chroma is how bright the color is, how saturated the color is,” she said. “Hue ... is the same thing as your undertone. We're talking about the temperature of the color—warm colors and cool colors. For value, we're going from white to black, [or] light to dark.”

Schlorholtz said this analysis is a more in-depth study than the standard, four seasons approach that only includes winter, summer, spring and fall. She said this doesn't account for the 75% of people who are somewhere in between.

“We’re looking at how your skin reacts,” she said. “If we see a negative change, like redness or splotching, if we see under eye circles ... those negative changes are things we don’t want. The purpose is to find colors that don’t change us so we don’t have to ‘fix’ anything."

What to expect

The appointment-only experience—which costs $295 and includes a one and a half hour analysis and a color swatch booklet that contains 65 of their best colors—equips clients with an evergreen guide to shopping, choosing makeup or adding highlights to their hair, if they choose, Schlorholtz said.

“It is an investment, but I like to remind people that you only need color analysis in your life,” Schlorholtz said. “Your color palette is your color palette for life, so your colors never change, even as we go gray.”
