Originally scheduled for the weekend of March 27, the Bayou City Art Festival has been postponed, according to a statement from the event planners March 11.

"In the interest of public health and in compliance with the Mayor of the City of Houston’s emergency health declaration, the Bayou City Art Festival scheduled for March 27-29, 2020 in Memorial Park will be postponed. The Bayou City Art Festival leadership is working closely with the Mayor’s Office to determine the date for rescheduling," the statement reads.

The cancellation comes the same day that Houston Rodeo officials decided to cut short that event as well.

The event, which will mark 50 years in 2021 since its founding as the Westheimer Art Festival, is held twice a year. It already has a fall event planned for downtown Houston on Oct. 10-11.

The festivals are funded in part by grants from the city's Houston Arts Alliance, corporate sponsorships, private contributions, in-kind support and volunteer assistance, according to the organization.
