After a soft opening in August, a grand opening will take place for the Austin-based eatery Tumble 22 at its first location in Houston's Inner Loop at 1017 Houston Ave., near the Washington Avenue intersection.

Tumble 22 specializes in Nashville-style hot chicken and also offers "cheap stiff drinks" and homemade pies, according to an Aug. 30 news release. It features a full-service bar and a pickup window for carryout orders.

Menu items include favorites from the chain, such as the O.G. Sandwich, made with bone-in chicken, deviled eggs, and mac and cheese. New menu items include the grilled chicken sandwich, two new salads and homemade milkshakes. Chicken is Texas raised, hand breaded and tumbled 22 times, giving the restaurant its name.

The new location is at the former site of Avenue Grill on Houston Avenue, which operated for 20 years until closing, briefly reopening and closing again in 2018, according to information on the real estate listing site Loopnet.

All profits from the grand opening day Sept. 12 will be evenly divided between the Memorial Hermann Foundation and Fresh Arts, according to the release. Customers Sept. 12 can also take part in a raffle to win free chicken for a year, a coloring contest for children and free samples.

Another Houston location can be found in Vintage Park in northwest Houston.
