Harris County commissioners will consider and potentially take action on over 300 agenda items Feb. 12, including approval of an interlocal agreement for a mental health mapping project in Precinct 4 and a progress update on a countywide flood mapping system.
The big picture
Harris County Flood Control District officials will provide an update to commissioners on the progress and next steps of the MAAPNext project. The project is a collaborative effort with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which is also funding the project, and HCFCD to create up-to-date hydrology and flood maps to gauge current and future flooding risks across the county.
As previously reported by Community Impact, the Modeling, Assessment and Awareness Project kicked off in 2019 and aims to provide maps that are separate from the FEMA floodplain maps, which have historically been used by county officials.
Another item up for discussion is changes to the rules and procedures for the presentation of resolutions during Commissioner's Court meetings. On Jan. 8, commissioners passed a resolution that pushed the resolution presentation time to 6 p.m. Commissioners also requested potential revisions as to what items can be added to the Commissioner's Court business meetings, which are separate from regular court meetings.

Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones will seek to approve an interlocal agreement with the University of Houston to conduct an extension of a mental health resource mapping project to "provide actionable data to guide policies, budget priorities, and community engagement strategies aimed at enhancing access to care."
Harris County officials will also approve the sale of 8.21 acres of land located at 8415 FM 1960 W., Humble, which was previously considered for an affordable housing project from Community Development Block Grants. However, officials with CDBG said the land is now "unfit" for a housing development due to noise hazards. The land is set to be sold for $2.4 million to Nextforce Capital, according to agenda documents.
