With all early and absentee votes counted, incumbent Don Ryan is ahead of challenger Natalie Blasingame in the race for Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees Position 6.

Ryan received 67.73 percent of the early votes, or a total of 3,647 votes. Blasingame has 32.27 percent, or 1,738 votes.

In a candidate Q&A with Community Impact Newspaper, Ryan said, if re-elected, his focuses would revolve around improving school safety, staying competitive with employee salaries and fighting for more equitable funding at the state level.

"During my 17 years on the board, I have maintained a positive and open dialogue with our elected officials in Austin to address equitable funding for CFISD," Ryan said.

Blasingame, a Cy-Fair resident who currently serves as an assistant superintendent in Houston ISD, said she felt compelled to run for the CFISD school board to help the district adapt to population changes to make sure no students are being left behind.

"As our demographics shift, we must address our achievement gap," she said. "We must hold high expectations for all students and increase choice and personalization within our public school system to meet the needs of all learners and families in our increasingly diverse community."

Both candidates have spoken out against the use of state-funded vouchers to provide funding to students to help them attend private schools.

Incumbents John Ogletree and Bob Covey are also up for election this November. Both candidates ran unopposed for positions 5 and 7, respectively.

Ogletree received 4,992 votes through early voting, and Covey received 5,008 votes.

Trustees are elected at-large to four-year terms. Trustees Tom Jackson, Christine Hartley, Darcy Mingoia and Debbie Blackshear will be up for election in 2019. Ryan has served on the school board for 17 years.

All results are unofficial until canvassed.
