In the 2025-26 school year, New Caney ISD was among the top public school districts across the Greater Houston area for some Texas Education Agency-tracked variables, such as enrollment growth and average teacher pay, according to data released March-June.
However, the school district also ranked on the low side of school districts in the region for demographics such as the number of students in foster care, TEA data shows.

Community Impact analyzed data from the TEA to learn trends amongst 30 Greater Houston-area public school districts. Data covered enrollment, student transfers, special education, bilingual students and more.

NCISD saw 2% student enrollment loss via student transfers in the 2025-26 school year. This rate was the same for neighboring Humble ISD.
Out of 30 analyzed public school districts across the Greater Houston area, NCISD had the second-highest average teacher pay for 2025-26.
According to TEA data, NCISD saw:
53.8% fewer students in foster care in 2025-26 compared to 2021-22The largest decline in foster care students in the region from 2021-26In the 2025-26 school year, 17.8% of NCISD's students were enrolled in special education.
About one-third of NCISD's student population were enrolled in Emergent Bilingual programs in 2025-26.
The largest share of the NCISD students with a home language of Spanish were enrolled in kindergarten-fifth grade, according to TEA data.
