Montgomery County commissioners awarded $8.4 million in design and engineering contracts on Aug. 13 for the FM 149 expansion and widening efforts in Precinct 2.

The details

According to previous Community Impact reporting, the project will consist of a four-lane highway extending FM 149 and directly connecting to Hwy. 249. The project will also consist of a new bridge at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway crossing and over Lake Creek.

The contracts were awarded to three separate companies for sections of the widening and expansion:

  • SH 105 to Keenan Cut Off Road
  • $3.6 million
Cobb, Fendley and Associates
  • FM 1488 to Jackson Road
  • $2.11 million
Consor Engineer, LLC
  • FM 1774 to Jackson Road (environmental design only)
  • $2.7 million
What’s next?




Work is scheduled to begin on the FM 149 expansion by the end of 2024 following approval of the contracts. The project has been in the works since early 2023.
