Montgomery County is proposing an extension of FM 149 from the existing FM 149 south to Hwy. 249 as a four-lane divided highway. A public meeting is scheduled for 5-7:30 p.m. June 14 at the Magnolia Event Center, located at 11659 FM 1488, Magnolia, to learn more about the project and gather written comments.

According to a meeting notice from Montgomery County, the extension spans 3.45 miles, replaces a bridge over Lake Creek, constructs a new bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks and Jackson Road, eliminates an at-grade railroad crossing and intersection with Jackson Road, and provides a direct connection to the Hwy. 249 tollway.

No structures are expected to be displaced by the project, although the county would need to acquire additional right of way to extend the road.

Project drawings and maps will be available for review 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Montgomery County Precinct 2 office, located at 19110 Unity Park Drive, Magnolia.

Public comments will be accepted from June 14 to midnight July 14 on the environmental assessment for the project and can be mailed to Commissioner Charlie Riley, Montgomery County Precinct 2, 19110 Unity Park Drive, Magnolia, Texas 77355, or submitted by email to [email protected].
