At its Aug. 12 meeting, Montgomery City Council approved the proposed fiscal year 2025-26 budget and tax rate of $0.40 per $100 valuation.

A public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate is set for Sept. 15.

The proposed tax rate of $0.40 per $100 valuation has remained the same for the seventh consecutive year, according to previous reporting.

The city’s proposed FY 2025-26 budget projects $8.2 million in revenue and $7.7 million in expenditures, resulting in a surplus of $411,483, according to the city’s budget. Director of Finance Maryann Carl said the information on the budget presented in the agenda packet has varied slightly following the council’s budget workshop Aug. 11.


The breakdown

According to the agenda packet, the proposed FY 2025-26 budget includes:
  • $3.1 million for administration
  • $2.6 million for police
  • $1.6 million for public works
  • $374,842 for the court department
