Vegas Texas Casino to open in Cypress

Vegas Texas Casino officials said the casino has plans to open from Dec. 15-Jan. 1 pending receipt of its Certificate of Occupancy and TABC license. The casino is fully compliant with all Texas gambling and sweepstakes laws, and no gambling of any kind is offered, officials said.

The Cypress location will be the first of five total locations Vegas Texas Casino plans to open in Texas within the next 24-36 months.

Toll rates to increase Jan. 1 along portions of Hwy. 249 in Montgomery County

On Jan. 1, drivers will see an increase in toll rates, according to a Nov. 18 news release from the Harris County Toll Road Authority.

The toll rate increases are along the Montgomery County Toll Road Authority’s portion of Hwy. 249. Through an interlocal agreement, HCTRA provides toll tag account management and customer service to MCTRA.

The Woodlands Township seeks public-private partnership for golf course on Gosling Road

The Woodlands Township could see a public golf course on Gosling Road, following unanimous approval by the board of directors Dec. 4 to issue a request for proposals.

The board of directors is looking to form a public-private partnership between the township and an outside entity to create and operate a golf complex at the South Gosling Tract, a 208-parcel tract donated by Howard Hughes in 2023 off Gosling Road on Spring Creek.

Chris Nunes, chief operating officer for The Woodlands Township, said at the Dec. 4 meeting the course would be suitable for all skill levels and would provide a unique experience in the area for both residents and visitors, ultimately contributing to revenue for the township.

Trader Joe’s opens in Kingwood Commons shopping center

Trader Joe's is now open in Kingwood, following a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grocery store at 8 a.m. Dec. 5.

The company has six additional locations in the Greater Houston area including three in Houston and one each in Katy, Sugar Land and The Woodlands. A new location is also planned for 9715 Towne Lake Parkway in Cypress.
