Overland Property Group has plans to convert the former school into a moderate-income, multifamily rental housing development named Landmark 601, according to the agenda item.
City Council approved the $4.3 million sale with the contingency of Overland Property Group securing a grant to help fund its project. If the grant is not awarded to the group, the sale will be voided, Assistant City Administrator Nancy Mikeska said during the meeting.
The city received two bids for the property and city staff recommended the sale to Overland Property Group. Conroe officials purchased the school from Conroe ISD in 2021 with the intent of creating a facility for performing arts; lack of funds held the project back, according to prior reporting.

Sam Houston Elementary was originally set to sell to Overland Property Group in February 2024 before the company rescinded its offer following concern from the community, according to prior reporting.
