Residents of Conroe were able to cast ballots on 15 proposed amendments to the city charter.
The city charter, originally adopted in 1965, was last updated following an election in May 2014, as previously reported.
Per the proposed charter amendments, among the 15 proposed amendments:
- Proposition A: would shift Conroe to a council-manager system
- Proposition C: addresses how many council members must be present to conduct city business; three council members—or two members and the mayor—cannot meet privately to deliberate city matters
- Proposition H: would limit the mayor’s and council members’ compensation to no more than $400 per month and no more than $300 per month, respectively
- Proposition K: alters how citizens can recall elected officials by raising the threshold to 15%, calculated from the last general city election
- Proposition O: limits the city’s ability to take on debt without voter approval
