A Montgomery ISD Education Foundation chair was one of 15 individuals across Texas to be selected for the State Board of Education’s 2023 Heroes for Children Award for District 6, according to an Aug. 4 news release from MISD.

Two-minute impact

Shannan Reid—the executive director for the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce—has served the MISD Education Foundation since it was created in 2014, according to the news release.

The Heroes for Children Award is annually bestowed on individuals who give “time, effort, service and support” to schools and students, according to the Texas Education Agency’s website.“[Reid] has the remarkable ability to magnify the amazing support we enjoy in our community, and is truly gifted at matching volunteers and resources to perfectly address the needs of students and employees in our school district,” MISD Interim Superintendent Amy Busby said via the Aug. 4 news release.

The background

In 2017, Reid and a team of volunteers she organized stepped up to help teachers ready their classrooms for the upcoming school year after renovations were completed on campuses, according to MISD’s news release. The efforts were a precursor of the chamber’s annual Get Back to Work Day.

Reid also served as MISD’s PAC bond chair for 2022 and was a member of MISD’s 2021 bond task force.
