At its Sept. 15 regular board meeting, the Montgomery ISD board of trustees reviewed a campus improvement plan from MISD Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Amy Busby.
Sorting out the details
In 2021, MISD launched a districtwide initiative known as the Pathway to Premier, a long-term strategy to guide the district toward becoming the premier school district in Texas. The plan's goals have been revised since then, notably in February 2024, when a committee composed of teachers, parents and students was formed. The updated goals were completed in June 2024, and the plan was set to last until 2029.
Busby said that the district has five targets to help reach that goal:
Busby said the district is currently working on multiple plans for its elementary and secondary school campuses.
Creekside Elementary will use additional staff to identify students who need extra support in reading and math. Kenan Elementary will implement a 45-minute enrichment time in its master schedule to provide students with support in small groups. Lincoln Elementary counselors will discuss bullying with students to prevent negative behavior.
Lake Creek High School has begun to create a coalition to analyze district performance data on state standardized tests. At Montgomery High School, campus administrators are working to help students improve certain End-of-Course exam scores. For Oak Hills Junior High, MISD will use small groups for targeted intervention and enrichment. These programs are designed to support students who are performing below grade level and challenge those who are mastering their coursework.
