Montgomery ISD officials and its partners broke ground June 14 on Creekside Elementary School, the district's seventh elementary school set to open in time for the 2024-25 school year. Construction of Creekside Elementary is funded by MISD's $326.9 million bond package voters approved in May 2022.

The school, which will be home to the Creekside Cubs, was designed by Huckabee Architects, board President Laurie Turner said.

“Our Montgomery ISD trustees are committed to providing the very best learning environment to our kids,” she said. “Creekside Elementary is sure to become a cornerstone of this community and is sure to shape the lives of countless MISD kids who will thrive and prosper here in the years ahead.”

Creekside Elementary School will be located behind Lake Creek High School off FM 2854. Kris Lynn, MISD assistant superintendent of finance and operations, said in May the new elementary school will cost about $33.5 million to build, Community Impact reported.

A demographic report completed in 2021 by demographics firm Population and Survey Analysts projected MISD’s enrollment will grow more than 45% from 2021-22 to 2030-31. This includes 2,069 students more students projected at the elementary level from 2021-22 to 2030-31, according to the moderate growth scenario outlined in the PASA report, pushing existing campuses past capacity.

“The need for what is going to be soon Creekside Elementary School really was never any question [in the bond process],” Superintendent Heath Morrison said. “When we put those shovels in, it's not just the next step for our seventh elementary school; it's another step in the journey of MISD to be on the road to being the premier district in the state of Texas.”

Carrie Fitzpatrick, MISD assistant superintendent of elementary education, said during the ceremony, the new school will include cutting-edge technology and vibrant common areas.

Pogue Construction is the firm chosen to build the school.

“Let us remember that this ceremony is not just about bricks and mortar,” she said. “It's about creating an environment that fosters growth, ignites imagination and encourages every child to dream big. It is a symbol of our unwavering commitment to providing the tools needed to shape a better future for ourselves and our world.”
