The Montgomery ISD board of trustees voted to approve naming its newest elementary school at a regularly scheduled board meeting Dec. 20. The district’s seventh elementary school was approved by voters as part of the $326.9 million May 2022 bond package and will serve 200 students within the Lake Creek High School feeder pattern.

The new campus will be named Creekside Elementary School, according to district officials. Amy Busby, MISD assistant superintendent of student services and innovation, said in a presentation during the board meeting that a naming committee selected the title from more than 900 suggestions.

The school’s mascot, a cub, was also approved at the meeting. School colors will be blue and gold.

MISD Trustee Linda Porten said in a Dec. 20 news release from the district that the name and mascot reflect the building’s proximity to Lake Creek High School.

“The branding package recognizes the school’s place in the LCHS feeder pattern while also conveying a unique identity for the new campus,” she said. “I know the school’s inaugural students and staff members will be excited to be Creekside Cubs.”

Creekside Elementary is set to open for the 2024-25 school year, according to district officials. The school will be located on FM 2854 behind Lake Creek High School.
