Montgomery ISD Board of Trustees approved the design for Creekside Elementary at a regularly scheduled meeting Jan. 17.

In a news release following the meeting, details on the interior design were given. The design features a centrally located library with makerspaces. The interior finishes are inspired by the Sam Houston National Forest and the area surrounding the campus, and the forest-themed interior will focus on the school's blue and gold color scheme.

The one-story building will be equipped for 900 students, according to the release.

Trustee Linda Porten said completing the design was a collaborative effort.

"MISD trusted the team and expertise provided by Huckabee Architects to develop a design that is highly functional, educationally innovative and truly beautiful," she said in the release. "We are confident that the facility will accommodate our growing district and provide an excellent learning environment for our students."

With the design approved, the bond process can continue.

Kris Lynn, assistant superintendent of finance and operations, said during the meeting the next phase includes drafting construction documents and beginning the formal bid process.

According to the MISD website, the bid process will start in March with construction slated to start in May.

Creekside Elementary is set to open for the 2024-25 school year. The school will be located on FM 2854 behind Lake Creek High School.

Designs for the Lake Creek High School addition were also approved at the meeting.
