A capital improvements update to the board of trustees May 17 by Easy Foster, Conroe ISD’s director of planning and construction, showed multiple renovations and new buildings in the works over summer 2022.

At Galatas Elementary, the air conditioning system will be updated, and the district has all the equipment in transit or on hand for the above-ceiling work over the summer, according to Foster. The project will be done before the start of the 2022-23 school year.

Creighton Elementary will have its kitchen and serving lines extended during the summer and ready for the 2022-23 school year, according to Foster.

The new Moorhead Junior High School exterior walls are up, and the athletic fields and tennis courts are under construction, according to the meeting presentation. The development is on schedule to be open in August 2023.

Conroe High School renovations are on schedule with a new career and technical education venue and new locker room and gym spaces under construction, according to Foster. Walls and masonry are being put up for the CTE venue, and second-floor decks will soon be installed for the two-story portion of the gym space. The district will work on this campus through 2025.



The new Gordon-Reed Elementary school will be finished in May and be open for the 2022-23 school year, according to Foster.

6. Oak Ridge High School has construction underway for a new administrative area and front door, according to the meeting presentation. The new CTE wing is beginning to take shape with underground utilities being installed this summer, and the district will be working on this campus through the end of summer 2023.

Conroe High School will wrap up construction for its ninth-grade classroom addition in May with the inside essentially finished and work being done outdoors, such as outdoor dining areas, according to Foster.

Flex 22, an elementary school located on Lexington Boulevard in the Grand Oaks feeder area and set to open August 2023, has developers working on the streets and infrastructure around the school, and the foundations have been poured, according to the meeting presentation. The campus has not yet been named.


A new maintenance and child nutrition facility is underway on FM 2854 with clearing done and excavation work for the building slabs underway, according to Foster. The facility is set to open in summer 2023.

Caney Creek High School has 6A upgrades underway for its transition to 6A next school year, which means the school has at least 2,225 students and will compete with 248 other 6A high schools in Texas for University Interscholastic League competitions, including sports and fine arts. This includes expanding the athletics venues, which is underway, and a new front door and security features will be installed over the summer as well. The district will be working on this campus through summer 2023, Foster said.
