Peary said OMG Wings’ restaurant style is typical in Illinois with its diner vibes and menu options, but he said he noticed there weren’t any similar restaurants in the area previously.
OMG Wings offers wings and chicken tenders in a variety of sauces. The restaurant also features loaded fries, combo meals and desserts such as powdered buns.
“This is a basic restaurant in Illinois, so I’ve never seen it down here, so we brought it here,” Peary said.
Peary said the most challenging part about running the business was learning the ins and outs of owning and operating a restaurant. He said he previously worked as a truck driver but was looking to leave the business; the transition was hard on him due to having to learn a completely new profession.
“[The transition] was real hard,” Peary said. “Just permits and those type of things, I didn’t know what all came with running the business.”
But Peary said he didn’t go searching for a brick-and-mortar space; however, after frequenting the gas station next to where OMG Wings is located, he saw the space had become available, and he knew he had to lease it.
He said the best part about running the business is the accomplishment it provides. Despite having no idea what it looks like to run a business, he feels the restaurant is a reward in itself.
“[The best part about running the business] is being able to say we did it,” Peary said. “It’s coming along, it’s a success.”
Peary said the business is looking to expand in the next year as business continues to grow.
“Within the next year we are looking to go to Huntsville,” he said.
