Dog- and family-friendly ice beer garden Hound Hauz resides on 2 acres of green space and tall shade trees. Located on Cindy Hitchcock’s 10 total acres of land between Magnolia and Montgomery north of Hwy. 249, the beer garden opened on Aug. 7, 2023.
“It's not a bar,” Hitchcock said. “It's a place where people and dogs can hang out and we serve beer and wine.”
What’s special about it?
The woman-owned beer garden provides the community with a family- and dog-friendly environment where dogs are allowed both indoors and in the outdoor area.
“As a grandmother of three and dog owner, I'm very community-oriented, and try to include everybody,” Hitchcock said.

The beer garden is known for its community involvement with rotating events held regularly including live music performances, markets and beekeeping and painting events.
A recurring event includes the 1486 Market held on the second and fourth Sunday of every month, with vendors selling items including honey, jewelry, sausage, pickles and cigars.

“We have had probably close to 40 animals over the last 15 years that people have dumped here,” Hitchcock said. “So I'm pretty passionate about making sure they find homes.”
What they offer
Hound Hauz offers a variety of bottled beer, wine and seltzers such as Michelob, Shiner, Coors, Twisted Tea and White Claws as well as food provided by its permanent food truck, Takos La Gorda.
Takos La Gorda, the beer garden's permanent food truck as of August, offers queso birria tacos amongst other Mexican dishes. (Jovanna Aguilar/Community Impact)
The family-owned food truck was brought to Hound Hauz in early August by husband and wife Hugo and Norma Reyna and daughter Amarantha Reyna alongside manager and business partner Kevin Torres. The food truck offers a variety of Mexican cuisine options including street tacos, queso birria tacos, street corn and birria hot dogs.
Hound Hauz also provides a space for private events such as birthday parties, a playground for children and frequent workshops by partnering with local organizations.
