Editor's Note: Story has been updated to reflect new opening date.

National foodservice supplier Gordon Food Service is opening six new stores in metro Houston, which are the first Texas locations for the company, according to a March 13 news release. Store officials said the targeted open date is May 1.

“Gordon Food Service Store believes in the power of good food and its ability to bring people together and make moments special. We are excited to open our doors to the greater Houston community and provide the chef-quality food products our stores are known for," GFS President Tim Grabar said in a statement.

The Meyerland store will be located within the Braeswood Square Shopping Center at 5300 N. Braeswood Blvd., Houston. The store is still under construction and is located next to its lighted “coming soon” sign along North Braeswood Boulevard. Local shoppers can expect to find seasonal produce, fresh meats, grab-and-go meals, fresh tortillas and same-day delivery, according to the news release. Its hours of operation will be Monday-Saturday 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

Gordon Food Service Stores have been around for 125 years, as a family-operated food distribution company, its website says. They provide food products, including packaged and fresh goods, to restaurant owners and other foodservice professionals, according to the news release. Each store will comprise between 25,000 to 30,000 square feet and employ at least 40 full and part-time employees, the news release stated.
