Houston Mayor John Whitmire announced that all Houston airports will reopen the morning of Jan. 22, according to a Jan. 21 news conference.

What we know

William P. Hobby Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport will reopen after shutting down Jan. 21 due to the snow and ice brought in by a cold front the night of Jan. 20. Houston saw more than four inches of snow on Jan. 21, according to The Weather Channel, which led to closures of several schools, hospitals and flight operations.

Whitmire said TSA lines will open at 9 a.m., flights will begin arriving at 10 a.m. and departing flights will take off at 11 a.m.

Additionally, Whitmire warned Houstonians that the next 24 hours will be dangerous as the melting snow will freeze and turn icy overnight. He urged residents to protect pipes, and be prepared for broken and frozen pipes.

Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz also said during the news conference that there was a total of 48 accidents throughout the Greater Houston area Tuesday, with 24 of them requiring medical attention. However, he said nothing was catastrophic.
