League City officials are expected to start asphalt work on a number of roads in October, which could cause minor interruptions to traffic on select streets.

What you need to know

As part of the city’s annual reinvestment program, League City officials budgeted money for asphalt street reconstruction, Sarah Osborne, director of communications and community engagement, said in a Sept. 10 email.

The project gives details on road packages six through 11 that will see work between now and fiscal year 2027-28, according to city documents. Packages one through five have already been completed, Osborne said.

The work beginning in October is part of packages six and seven, Osborne said. Package six is nearly complete, while package seven will consist of:
  • Lakeside Drive from West Drive to Mockingbird Lane
  • West Drive
  • Valmar Street
  • Oak Road
  • Mockingbird Lane
  • Bluebonnet Street
The work is expected to be completed in February and could cause minor traffic interruptions on the streets that will see work, Osborne said.

The cost

From FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28, League City will invest a total of $14 million in the asphalt project, according to city documents. The bulk of that money is for construction, while roughly $1 million is for planning and design.

This total adds onto an already $16.4 million that had been previously apportioned, making the total $30.4 million, documents show. However, documents do not specify how far back that $16.4 million goes.

All of the new $14 million will come from a reinvestment fund, according to city documents.

What else?

The other packages will be designed and be worked on in the coming years, with part of the construction for package nine slated for FY 2027-28, according to city documents.

The remainder of package nine, as well as designing packages 10 and 11, will occur in future years, according to the project sheet.
