A purchase agreement between CMX Cinemas and Star Cinema Grill will result in CMX acquiring all 10 of Star Cinema Grill’s 10 existing locations, including one at 702 Baybrook Mall Drive, Friendswood, according to a March 16 news release.

Star Cinema Grill is an operator of upscale dine-in movie theaters, mostly in the Greater Houston area. CMX Cinemas, which also recently acquired Cobb Theatres, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cinemex. The acquisition will position CMX Cinemas to become the seventh-largest movie theater chain in the U.S., with 51 theaters and 504 screens across 13 states, per the release.

“We are thrilled that Star Cinema Grill and the wonderful people that work for this company will have the opportunity to be part of a growing, premiere, international cinema operator such as CMX, that holds itself to the same high standards as we do,” said Omar Khan, Star Cinema Grill president and chief executive officer, in a statement.
