The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is asking for blood donations of all types following the recent winter storm in the Houston area, officials said in a Jan. 22 news release. With several blood drives canceled amid hazardous conditions, health care providers have been challenged to meet demand.

What to know

The center is in need of 1,000 blood donations a day to sustain the blood supply for community hospitals. Each donation can save up to three lives.

Those who donate blood through Jan. 24 will receive a $20 virtual gift card in the Donor Rewards Store and a free A1c diabetes screening, per the release.

The public can donate blood or host a blood drive by visiting www.giveblood.org.
