The Harris County Flood Control District will host 10 public meetings from July to August regarding a new flood risk reduction effort.

The setup

In coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the effort—called the Solutions for Advancing Floodplain Evaluation and Resilience (SAFER) Study—will explore new flood mitigation options, laying practical groundwork for future projects across 11 out of the 23 watersheds in the county.

The feasibility study is currently in the scoping phase and is being conducted in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act. The study builds on existing efforts to secure larger-scale federal funding.
