The city of League City is partnering with local volunteering organization League City Lions Club to host a collection drive to support Hurricane Helene victims, according to a news flash from the city.

What you need to know

The drive will be hosted at Hometown Heroes Recreation Center, 1001 East League City Parkway, League City, during the following times:

  • 7 a.m.-9 p.m. on Oct. 4
  • 8 a.m-6 p.m. on Oct. 5
  • noon-6 p.m. on Oct. 6
  • 7 a.m.-9 p.m. on Oct. 7

The backstory

Hurricane Helene first made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane on Sept. 26, bringing 140 mph winds, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website. From there it spread across the South to affect other states including Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

As of Oct. 4 the storm's death toll has surpassed 200 victims according to North Carolina and Georgia officials, making Helene the deadliest storm since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
