A new candidate has filed to challenge a sitting member of League City City Council.

What you need to know

Aug. 19 marked the last day to file to run for local offices across Texas, including in League City.

On Aug. 16, Joe Italiano filed to run for council position 5, challenging sitting council member Justin Hicks.

Community Impact previously reported that all candidates running for the three available seats would run unopposed, but that changed when Italiano filed.


Incumbent council member Tom Crews filed to run on Aug. 19, filings show. He will run against resident Scott Higginbotham.

According to the city's website, the following candidates have applied to be on the Nov. 5 ballot:
  • Position 3, Scott Higginbotham
  • Position 3, incumbent Tom Crews
  • Position 4, incumbent Courtney Chadwell
  • Position 5, incumbent Justin Hicks
  • Position 5, Joe Italiano
