Clear Creek ISD will be undergoing construction this summer, and additional school buses will be added for the 2024-25 school year after the board of trustees approved funding for a few projects at its June 10 workshop meeting.

What’s happening?

The Safe Schools Department office space in CCISD will be converted into a new Emergency Operations and Incident Command Center after district officials felt the area needed to better suit emergency situations.

“Over the last couple of years, we have noted that the layout of that Safe Schools area is really compartmentalized and really doesn’t work well for reacting in emergencies, and communicating and collaborating,” said Paul Miller, assistant superintendent of support services for CCISD, at the workshop.

The Incident Command Center, which the district uses to provide support as well as organize responses and recovery during emergency situations, is located in the superintendent’s conference room. District officials felt it was too far and too small to handle emergency situations.

The Safe Schools office is located at the Education Support Center, according to the district’s website.

The project will entail removing existing office walls to create a more open floor plan. Construction is set to begin this summer and be completed by July 31, according to district documents.

The project will cost $209,000 and will be funded by the 2017 bond, according to district documents.

What else?

Two new Type A passenger school buses will also be purchased for the 2024-25 school year, according to district documents.

Type A passenger school buses only require a Class C driver’s license to operate, which will help with the Commercial Driver’s License driver shortage the district is facing, according to district documents.

The buses will be delivered to the district around July, according to district documents.

The purchase will cost $235,000 and will also be funded by the 2017 bond, according to district documents.
