With all relevant Galveston County voting centers reporting, Courtney Chadwell has won the race for League City City Council Position 4, according to unofficial results posted on the Galveston County Clerk Office website.

As of 9 p.m., unofficial results from Galveston County are as follows:
  • Courtney Chadwell with 2,045 votes, or 61.69% of the vote
  • Ange Mertens with 1,270 votes, or 38.31% of the vote

In the Feb. 17 runoff race for League City City Council Position 4, Courtney Chadwell currently has a lead over Ange Mertens, as of 7:30 p.m., according to unofficial election results from Galveston County.


Chadwell has received 1,117 votes, or 61.99% of the vote, while Mertens has received 685 votes, or 38% of the vote, unofficial results show. As of 7:30 p.m., none of the three total precincts involved in the race had reported.

The backstory

A runoff election was triggered in January when Chadwell won 1,407 votes, or 42.6% of the total vote count and Mertens had the next highest vote count with 610, or 18.46% of the total vote count, according to official election results.

A candidate must have over 50% of the votes to be declared the winner, according to League City’s city charter.
