The backstory
A special election was sparked when candidates Courtney Chadwell and Ange Mertens received the most votes out of five candidates in the Jan. 13 election.
However, neither received the majority, with Chadwell getting 1,407 votes, or 42.6%, and Mertens receiving 610 votes, or 18.47% of the vote, as previously reported by Community Impact.
A candidate must have over 50% of the votes to be declared the winner, according to League City’s city charter.
One more thing
