The city of League City is hosting a celebration May 14 to commemorate its 60th anniversary.

First will be a competition modeled after the television show "The Amazing Race." Called "The A-May-zing Adventure," League City's event will allow residents to participate in a citywide activity from 8 a.m. until noon.

Participants will meet at League Park, 512 2nd St., League City, where they will begin a contest across the city to solve clues and complete challenges, such as axe throwing, an obstacle course, puzzle solving, trivia and more. Winners will receive a package of prizes worth $125, according to the city.

Residents have until May 6 to register, which can be done here. The cost is $15 per person, or $10 if promo code "FB 30" is used.


From noon-4 p.m. May 14, the city will also host a family festival at Big League Dreams, 1150 Big League Dreams Parkway, League City. The event will include live music, bouncy houses, a rock-climbing wall, an inflatable obstacle course, face painting, cornhole, mini-golf and more. On-site restaurants will also sell food and drinks.

Helen Hall Library, 100 W. Walker St., League City, is also hosting a couple events.

On May 9 from 7-8 p.m., residents can hear from the History Club about the story of J. C. League and how the city came to be named after him. On May 12 at 10:15 a.m., adults can attend an event to learn about the history of League City.

League City was officially incorporated and chartered in 1962.
