Unofficial results from early voting posted by Harris County show 52.43% of votes for incumbent Democrat Ed Gonzalez and 47.57% of votes for Republican Mike Knox in the race for Harris County Sheriff.

Harris County has released early voting totals, and, according to unofficial early voting results, Ed Gonzalez leads with 616,816 votes and Mike Knox is trailing behind with 559,655 votes.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is the largest sheriff's office in Texas and the third-largest in the nation, according to the county website, with more than 5,000 employees.
Meet the candidates
- Gonzalez was a Houston Police Officer for 18 years; served on the Houston City Council for three terms and served as the Harris County sheriff for two terms.
- Knox is a retired HPD officer; small-business owner; former Houston City Council member and author/expert.
What else?
In early voting, there were 1.23 million ballots cast countywide, which represents 45.67% of total registered voters.
Totals from ballots cast Nov. 5 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.
