More than 134,000 voters cast their ballots during the early voting period in Galveston County.

During the early voting period, which ran from Oct. 21-Nov. 1, more people voted in the first half compared to the second, according to county data. Mail-in ballots sent in prior to Oct. 21 paired with the first seven days of voting totaled roughly 88,000 ballots, compared to less than 50,000 during the rest of the period.

Prior to early voting starting, the county received back around 2,600 mail-in ballots, according to county data.

As previously reported by Community Impact, the voting period began with five straight days of turnout totaling more than 11,000, data shows. On the first day of early voting, that number eclipsed 17,000.


In the days after, total votes eclipsed 10,000 twice, with the highest turnout, more than 12,000 when combined with mail-in ballots, of that period coming on the last day of early voting, data shows.


What’s next?

Election Day is Nov. 5, with polls in Galveston County open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., according to the county’s website.
