Institute creative policies to enhance recruitment and retention efforts to staff our workforce vacancies, which will enable our ability to be tougher on crime and keep our communities safe.



What is the biggest safety issue facing Galveston County residents?



Substance abuse contributing to criminal gang activity and overdose cases.



How would you work with local school districts to improve safety?



Work with school districts to support House Bill 3 by ensuring that every school has a uniformed law enforcement officer on campus that has current and up-to-date ALERRT [Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training] certification.



How does your experience prepare you for this role?



My 32 years of criminal law enforcement experience at an executive leadership role prepares me to better serve as sheriff for the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

What will be your top priority if elected?



Immediate administrative change, reduce crime through proactive policing and increased patrols. Street level drug interdiction, aggressive recruitment/retention, accountability and fair and equitable promotional processes. Eliminate the “Good ‘ole Boy” system.



What is the biggest safety issue facing Galveston County residents?



Gang-related shootings and other violent crimes related to the drug trafficking trade coming from the southern border. Prostitution, burglaries, thefts, and nuisance abatement issues in our unincorporated portions of the County.



How would you work with local school districts to improve safety?



As a former school district police chief, I have first-hand working knowledge and know the importance of safeguarding our schools and protecting our children. As sheriff, I will constantly maintain adequate staffing levels at our schools to maintain a safe learning environment for students to learn and teachers to teach.



How does your experience prepare you for this role?



As a former police chief and elected constable, I have the proven leadership abilities, know-how and managerial skills needed to lead the sheriff’s office to a higher level of professional standards and national accreditation. As sheriff, I will make our office the premier law enforcement agency in the region.
