San Jacinto College launched SJC AlertMe, a free, mobile safety application for students, employees and surrounding community members to stay informed and prepared for emergencies, according to a Jan. 21 news release from the college.

What you need to know

The app, which is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, delivers real-time notifications about weather closures, critical campus updates and urgent safety alerts.

App features include:
  • Instant emergency alerts for severe weather, closures and safety concerns
  • Incident reporting with the option to include photos or remain anonymous
  • Campus maps, emergency procedures and key contacts
  • Optional location sharing and "Friend Walk" features
