Clear Creek ISD students will start school Aug. 13 after the board of trustees approved the 2025-26 academic calendar at its Dec. 16 meeting.

While the bulk of students will start Aug. 13, transition students in pre-K, kindergarten, sixth and ninth grade will begin school Aug. 12, according to district documents.

There were two calendar drafts that were developed and shared with the District Education Improvement Committee, or DEIC, and were presented to CCISD staff and the community for input through a survey, district agenda documents note.

The main differences between the two options were the proposed holidays and professional learning days in October and February, according to a Nov. 18 news release from the district.


Based on survey results, Draft B was recommended to the board Dec. 16.
The details

According to district documents, scheduled breaks for CCISD include the following dates:
  • Fall break: Oct. 10-13
  • Thanksgiving break: Nov. 24-28
  • Winter break: Dec. 22-Jan. 2
  • Spring break: March 9-13
Superintendent Karen Engle noted at the meeting that this upcoming school year will be a fall break for everyone, including paraprofessional and hourly staff, who had to earn hours during fall break during this school year.

Student holidays include the following dates:
  • Labor Day: Sept. 1
  • Teacher in-service: Sept. 29, Nov. 4 and Jan. 5
  • Bad weather days: Oct. 14 and March 20
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Jan. 19
  • Presidents Day: Feb. 16
  • Good Friday: April 3
  • Memorial Day: May 25
Taking a step back

According to a presentation by the district, the 2025-26 academic calendar went through the following process:
  • September-November: calendar drafts developed, and communication began with Region 4 districts, closest districts, San Jacinto College and College of the Mainlands
  • Oct. 22: two calendar drafts proposed to DEIC
  • Nov. 18: voting opened
  • Dec. 5: voting closed
  • Dec. 10: DEIC reviewed data, considered factors and finalized recommendation to Engle
