Also on the agenda is approvals for capital projects and several different kinds of contracts, according to district documents.
What you need to know
Ahead of the vote on the new budget, CCISD’s board of trustees will hold a public hearing on the budget and the district’s new tax rate, which district documents show could decline slightly from last year.
Despite this, officials still estimate the average homeowner will pay an additional $145.40 in property taxes next year due to increasing appraisals of home values, documents show.
No documents are provided on the latest budget updates in the district’s agenda. However, officials provided a budget update at the board’s Aug. 12 workshop, which showed a budget totaling $405 million in revenue for the general fund.
Officials have long expected a shortfall but in July announced they had trimmed an expected $13 million shortfall to around $4 million. The Aug. 12 update showed a shortfall of a little less than $5 million, which would be covered by transferring in funds from the district’s capital and contingency fund if needed.
The budget will be adopted in three parts, officials said Aug. 12. Those are:
- The general fund
- The debt service fund
- The child nutrition fund
Smaller items on the agenda include using project funds for transportation-related projects, equipment and other supplies for visual and performing arts, and a series of contracts, according to agenda documents.
