Ross Elementary School, located at 2401 W. Main St. in League City, and Whitcomb Elementary School, located at 900 Reseda Drive in Houston, are the two projects brought before the board of trustees at their April 26 meeting.
Both projects are expected to be completed by August 2023, according to the district’s bond website, and are going through additions and renovations, per agenda documents.
With the $487 million bond originally being passed back in 2017, inflation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain disruption and increasing labor costs have all affected the construction costs on these projects.
Almost $4 million was requested to be paid from the capital projects fund for Ross Elementary, and about $1 million was requested for the Whitcomb Elementary project. Whitcomb Elementary also had the added funding need from a 2021 water main break that caused additional damage, according to agenda documents.
Both project contracts were awarded to ICI Construction, a Spring-based construction company, with construction starting immediately. Ross Elementary is set to cost $21 million while Whitcomb Elementary will cost $25 million.
