Exploration Green, a former golf course turned community space for both recreation and flood detention, held a ribbon cutting ceremony opening to the public, according to a Sept. 29 news release.

The facility offers a multi-purpose community space with accessible trails, native vegetation and various amenities within a system of detention ponds designed to manage stormwater, according to the Clear Lake City Water Authority.

Construction for the project was divided into eight phases: Phases 1A, 1B, 1C, 2, 3A, 3B, 4 and 5. Doug Peterson, special projects coordinator at Harris County Precinct 2, said the park is completely open.

The only phase left is Phase 5. In November, crews will begin planting trees in this phase.
