After serving 38 years with the League City Police Department, Chief Gary Ratliff is retiring.

His last day will be June 30, as stated in an official news release from the city.

Ratliff joined LCPD as a patrol officer in 1985 and was promoted to assistant chief in 2006 before becoming chief in 2018.

Throughout his career, Ratliff has held supervisory roles in various departments within LSPD and served in the following specialty positions:
  • Advanced accident investigator
  • Assistant SWAT commander
  • Detective
  • Field training coordinator
  • Honor guard
  • Internal affairs investigator
  • Public information officer
  • SWAT negotiator
“I think the greatest accomplishment for me has been the involvement that I have had in helping to build and form this department,” Ratliff said in the news release. “The citizens of League City are great, and there is no other community that I would have wanted to serve over the last 38 years.”

Assistant Chief Cliff Woitena will take over as League City’s interim police chief until a replacement is appointed.
